For photoisomerization of the N20 series between trans and cis states of their azobenzene units, it did not induce the drastic changes in HTPs observed when the dopants contained shorter linkers. Because of the long distance between the chiral and photoisomerizable moieties prevented any cooperative effects or efficient chirality transfer to the neighboring nematic host molecules, resulting in lower degrees of switching through photoinduced helical reorientation.
