มิติความแตกต่างในเรื่องความเป็นส่วนตัว (individualism/collectivism)
หมายถึง การที่บุคคลในแต่ละสังคมมีแนวความคิดและรูปแบบการดำรงชีวิตที่ขึ้นต่อสังคมไม่เท่ากัน บางสังคมประชาชนไม่ค่อยคำนึงถึงสังคมหรือความรู้สึกของคนรอบข้าง (individualism) บุคคลยึดถือในสิทธิตามกฎหมาย ในขณะที่ประชาชนในวัฒนธรรมที่คำนึงถึงสังคม (collectivism) มีความคิดและการกระทำต่างๆที่คำนึงถึงความรู้สึกของผู้อื่นหรือของกลุ่มมากกว่าคำนึงถึงกฎหมายเพียงอย่างเดียว ประชาชนในกลุ่มวัฒนธรรมนี้ส่วนหนึ่งได้รับอิทธิพลจากจีน โดยมีแนวคิดจากขงจื้อ (Confucian) คือ การให้ความสำคัญกับครอบครัวและพวกพ้อง ดังนั้น การตกลงเป็นลายลักษณ์อักษรจะมีคุณค่าน้อยกว่าความผูกพันแบบเครือญาติหรือสมัครพรรคพวก ความแตกต่างในลักษณะเช่นนั้นมักก่อให้เกิดปัญหาในการทำงานร่วมกับนักธุรกิจในกลุ่มประเทศตะวันตกที่มีลักษณะมีความเป็นส่วนตัวสูง
