ตลอดระยะ เวลากว่า60ปีที่ผ่านมา ภาพที่คนไทยทุกคนเห็นอยู่ประจำคือ ท่านทรงงานหนักเพื่อประเทศไทย เพื่อประชาชนชาวไทยมาตลอดเวลา ไม่ว่าจะลำบากเท่าใด จะเป็นสถานที่ที่ทุรกันดารเพียงใด มีความอันตรายแค่ไหน แต่หากเป็นสถานที่ที่ซึ่งมีประชาชนที่ประสบความทุกข์ ความลำบาก ท่านก็ไม่รีรอที่จะเสด็จไปหาประชาชนของท่าน ท่านยอมเหนื่อย ยอมลำบาก เพียงเพราะต้องการให้ประชาชนของท่านได้มีชีวิตที่ดีขึ้น ไม่ต้องลำบาก
แล้ว เราล่ะ? เราเคยทำอะไรให้ท่านมีความสุขบ้าง ตอนที่ผมพิมพ์บทความนี้ พ่อหลวงของเราพึ่งมีพระชนมายุ80พรรษาได้เพียง4วันเท่านั้น คุณลองนึกถึงคนธรรมดาที่มีอายุ80ปีดูนะครับ ตอนนี้พวกเค้าคงอยู่กับบ้าน มีลูกมีหลานคอยเลี้ยงดู ไม่ต้องออกมาทำงาน
แต่ไม่ใช่กับพ่อหลวงของเรา ครับ ท่านยังคงทรงเหนื่อยเพื่อประชาชนของท่าน แล้วท่านจะต้องเหนื่อยไปอีกนานแค่ไหนถึงพอ เมื่อไรพวกเราคนไทยถึงจะมีจิตสำนึกและคิดกันได้เสียที
พ่อหลวงของ เราทรงทำทุกอย่างเพื่อพวกเรา ท่านทรงใช้ชีวิตอย่างพอเพียง ถ้าพวกคุณเคยได้อ่านเกี่ยวกับท่านมาบ้างคงจะรู้ว่าท่านนั้นทรงประหยัดมาก เพียงใด คุณเคยเห็นรูปยาสีพระทนต์ของท่านรึเปล่า? เคยเห็นรูปรถส่วนพระองค์หรือไม่? แล้วถ้าย้อนกลับมาดูที่ประชาชนของท่านล่ะ
ครับ คนไทยปัจจุบันเห็นแก่ตัว น้ำที่เรียกว่าน้ำใจเริ่มแล้งขึ้นทุกเมื่อเชื่อวัน ทุกๆองค์กรมีแต่การโกงกินกันเพื่อประโยชน์ส่วนตนโดยไม่คำนึงถึงส่วนรวม ใช้ชีวิตฟุ่มเฟือย ไม่ประหยัดทรัพยากร เข่นฆ่ากันทุกวัน รู้ไหมว่าทำให้พ่อหลวงของเราเสียใจมากน้อยเพียงใด ปากของทุกคนพูดแต่เพียงว่ารักในหลวง รักในหลวง แต่คนที่พูดแล้วแสดงออกจริงๆ ถ้าสุ่มคนมาซักล้านคน จะมีถึง100คนรึเปล่าผมยังไม่แน่ใจเลย คุณรักและบูชาในหลวงกันก็เป็นสิ่งดี แต่ท่านไม่ได้ต้องการให้พวกเราบูชาท่านนะครับ ท่านต้องการให้พวกเราทำตามท่าน พวกคุณบูชาท่านอย่างเดียวแต่ไม่ทำตามมันก็ไร้ประโยชน์
คุณลองหลับตา ด้านขวาดูนะครับ แล้วมองไปรอบๆ ครับ หลายคนคงรู้แล้วว่าท่านต้องเสียพระเนตรข้างขวาไปจากอุบัติเหตุทางรถยนต์ เมื่อมีพระชนมายุเพียง20พรรษา แล้วลองนึกดูว่า มีกษัตริย์พระองค์หนึ่งต้องทรงงานหนักในการบำบัดทุกข์บำรุงสุขของปวงชนชาว ไทยโดยมองเห็นเพียงพระเนตรข้างซ้ายข้างเดียวมาตลอดเวลากว่า60ปี
แล้วคุณ รู้รึเปล่าครับว่า แม้กระทั่งวันที่พระองค์ทรงกำลังจะเข้าห้องผ่าตัดกระดูกสันหลังในอีก 5 ชั่วโมง (20 กรกฎาคม 2549) ยังทรงรับสั่งให้ข้าราชบริพารไปติดตั้งคอมพิวเตอร์เดินสายออนไลน์ไว้ เพราะกำลังมีพายุเข้าประเทศ พระองค์จะได้มอนิเตอร์ เผื่อน้ำท่วมจะได้ช่วยเหลือทัน
นี่แหละครับ พ่อหลวงของพวกเราคนไทย ท่านทรงเป็นห่วงเป็นใยและคอยคิดถึงประชาชนของท่านตลอดเวลา แล้วเมื่อไรล่ะครับ ที่พวกเราจะได้ทดแทนพระคุณของท่าน เมื่อไรที่พวกเราจะทำอะไรเพื่อท่านจะได้ไม่ต้องเหนื่อย และเมื่อไรคนไทยทุกคนจะคิดกันได้ซักที

แล้ววันนี้เรากำลังทำอะไรกันอยู่?

80 ชันษาของพระองค์ท่าน หากเปรียบกับคนธรรมดาก็สมควรที่จะได้พักเต็มที่ ได้รับการดูแลและระมัดระวังเป็นพิเศษ ไม่สมควรที่จะตรากตรำทำงานหนัก หรือกระทบกระเทือนใจแต่อย่างใด
แต่กลับเป็นว่า ในปีที่ครบ 80 ชันษาของพระองค์ท่านยังต้องทรงงานอยู่ตลอดเวลา ทั้งๆ ที่ทรงต้องอยู่ภายใต้การถวายการดูแลของคณะแพทย์
แตพระองค์ก็ยังทรงพัฒนาประเทศ
