ประวัติโรงเรียนโดยย่อ
โรงเรียนสบเมยวิทยาคม เริ่มก่อตั้งเมื่อวันที่ ๑๖ พฤษภาคม ๒๕๓๐ ตามนโยบายของ
กรมสามัญศึกษาขยายให้มีโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษาทุกอำเภอ โดยอาศัยอาคารเรียนโรงเรียนบ้านแม่เกาะ
มีนายเกษม พันธุรัตน์ ผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนแม่สะเรียง “บริพัตรศึกษา” เป็นผู้ดูแลในฐานะคณะกรรมการสามัญศึกษาประจำจังหวัดแม่ฮ่องสอน มีนักเรียนจำนวน ๖๓ คน เป็นนักเรียนชายจำนวน ๒๙ คน นักเรียนหญิงจำนวน ๓๔ คน ต่อมาได้ย้ายมาทำการสอนในที่ตั้งปัจจุบัน เมื่อวันที่ ๑๑ มิถุนายน ๒๕๓๐ โดยมีนายสุเทพ นุชทรวง เป็น ผู้บริหารคนแรก เปิดทำการสอนในระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ ๑ ถึงชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ ๓ จนกระทั่งปีการศึกษา ๒๕๓๘ ได้เปิดสอนในระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายจนถึงปัจจุบัน
