Receievd is a 10x6x3.5 cm specimen of left lower lobe lobectomy.
Serial sections reveal a 2.4 cm in diameter grayish white nodule with central caseous necrosis near subcapsular region.
The other parenchyma shows no remarkable change.
The sections are submitted as A-F.
Lung, left lower lobe, lobectomy
Mycobecterial infection (Special stain for acid-fast bacilli is positive)
Caseous granulomatous inflammation (2.4 cm in maximal dimension)
Special stain for fungi is negative.
