การวิจัยในครั้งนี้ศึกษาชนิด ปริมาณ และความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพของแพลงก์ตอนพืชและแพลงก์ตอนสัตว์ในแม่น้ำตรัง บริเวณท่าเทียบเรือนาเกลือ ตำบลนาเกลือ อำเภอกันตัง จังหวัดตรัง
ผลการศึกษาชนิดของแพลงก์ตอนพืชและแพลงก์ตอนสัตว์ พบว่าชนิดของแพลงก์ตอนพืช พบแพลงก์ตอนพืชทั้งหมด 7 Division 21 Genera 21 Species ได้แก่Division Bacillariophyta จำนวน 10 Genera Division Heterrokontophyta จำนวน 5 Genera Division Dinophyta จำนวน 2 Genera Division Dinoflagellata จำนวน 1 Genera Division Cyanobacteria จำนวน 1 Genera Division Haptophyta จำนวน 1 Genera และ Division Charophyta จำนวน 1 Genera พบแพลงก์ตอนสัตว์ทั้งหมด 6 Phylum 13 Genera 13 Species ได้แก่ Phylum Protozoa จำนวน 4 Genera Phylum Arthropoda จำนวน 5 Genera Phylum Urochordata จำนวน 1 Genera Phylum Chaetognatha จำนวน 1 Genera Phylum Annelida จำนวน 1 Genera และPhylum Mollusca จำนวน 1 Genera การศึกษาปริมาณแพลงก์ตอนพบว่า แพลงก์ตอนพืชมีปริมาณสูงสุดในระยะปลาย (ช่วงที่ 3) มีปริมาณ 10,194 เซลล์/ลิตร ในระยะเริ่มต้น (ช่วงที่ 1) มีปริมาณแพลงก์ตอนพืชน้อยที่สุดคือ 6,753 เซลล์/ลิตร และพบแพลงก์ตอนสัตว์ที่มีปริมาณสูงสุดในระยะสิ้นสุดการก่อสร้าง (ช่วงที่ 4) มีปริมาณ 1,138 ตัว/ลิตร ในระยะเริ่มต้น (ช่วงที่ 1) มีปริมาณแพลงก์ตอนสัตว์น้อยที่สุดคือ 48 ตัว/ลิตร ดัชนีความหลากชนิดของแพลงก์ตอนพบว่า แพลงก์ตอนพืช มีค่าความหลากชนิดในระยะปลาย (ช่วงที่ 3) มีค่าความหลากชนิดสูงสุด 2.48 ในระยะกลาง (ช่วงที่ 2) มีค่าความหลากชนิดน้อยที่สุด คือ 0.38 พบแพลงก์ตอนสัตว์ มีค่าความหลากชนิดในระยะเริ่มต้น (ช่วงที่ 1) มีค่าความหลากชนิดสูงสุด 0.85 ในระยะสิ้นสุดการก่อสร้าง (ช่วงที่ 4) มีค่าความหลากชนิดน้อยที่สุด คือ 0.55
