During adolescence we realize that half of our morality code, education, spiritual beliefs, and everyday habits are given to us by our parents. The other half comes from the larger society.
The education we receive, the submission to this belief system, to the values of our family and our society, is a dangerous process in the sense that it takes out a big proportion of our potential to be independent thinkers. Afterwards, we become part of the “mass-production society”. Our only way forward is to either be assimilated or alienated.
We can argue that the process of conscious alienation from society is an extremely healthy process that allows us to detox and re-boot, then re-identify and re-emerge.
