with groups of individuals who had an impaired immune system,
since these individuals had high rates of positivity, as follows:
33.3% from 145 alcoholics [13], 12% from 100 individuals with
human immunodeficiency virus infection [14], 9.15% from 77 individuals
with gastrointestinal cancer [15], 3.8% from 120 individuals
with diabetes mellitus type 2 [16] and 3.3% from 151 immunocompromised
and non-immunocompromised hospitalized children
[17]. The present study is the first that demonstrated the serological
detection of IgG anti-S. stercoralis in individuals affected with tuberculosis
and unlike other associations mentioned above, there are few
papers in the literature that comment and clarify the development of
strongyloidiasis in individuals with tuberculosis [18,19]. The high
prevalence in these individuals demonstrates the need to use tests
that have good diagnostic accuracy for detection of the parasite in
individuals that present some immunocompromise.
