Mapping of business licensing and oversight
According to the 1968 Business Licensing Law and bylaws enacted, any legal entity defined as ‘‘Busi- ness’’ can’t operate without a license issued by an official authority. The law and bylaws were meant to ensure a number of goals, including: the assurance of public safety and security, prevention of public health and environmental hazards; compliance with building and zoning codes; environmental protec- tion and fire safety. Granting a business license involves several na- tional government agencies: the police department, the Ministry of Health, fire and rescue services, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Labor and other organizations. National government agencies play both policy and oversight roles. They set professional standards in the areas of health, sanitation, safety, and environmental protection.
