昨日、タイのKMITL（キングモンクット王工科大学）からの交換留学生が

昨日、タイのKMITL（キングモンクット王工科大学）からの交換留学生が３週間の留学期間を終えタイに帰国した。この短期留学は以前にも行われていましたが、今年から受け入れ可能教員の専門分野などを明確にするなどして、リニューアルしたもので、ありがたいことに希望する学生１名が私の研究室に来ることになりました。
今年からリニューアルということで、留学スケジュールや、全体的なプログラムが直前にならないとわからなかったため、指導教員（私）が対応しなければならない受け入れ（初日）、最終報告会（最終日前日）、さよならパーティ（最終日）に出張などもあり全て対応できないことがわかり、大学院生と４年生とで緊急会議。短い期間なので、留学生が不安なく、充実した短期留学がおこなえるように協力を要請した。
私自身は学内業務で拘束される時間も多く、あまり対応できなかったが、学生、院生がよく対応してくれた。
ゼミでの外書購読でむちゃくちゃ苦労している英語があまり得意とは言えない学生にとって、日本語が通じない場合には英語で説明しなければならないプレッシャーはあったようだが、留学生が英語、日本語がそこそこできることがわかるとかなり安心していました。
とても聡明で、英語も日本語もできる同世代の学生と接することで、うちの学生、院生にとってとてもよい影響を与えてくれたFonさんにとても感謝。心配なのは、学生がFonさんがいなくなったことで喪失感を感じて、思い出回想モードになることか（私も回想モードに陥って、こんな回想録を書いていたりします）。ここは、Fonさんにあれからこれだけ成長したよ、って示せるよう頑張ってもらいたいですね。

東海大は、多くの海外の大学と提携して、留学プログラムなどもありますが、KMITLはその中でも特別な関係です。今年の東海大学の入学式で祝辞をされたKMITLの学長も、東海大学に留学して学位をとっていますね。
KMITLが大学として成熟するために初代総長をはじめ東海大学が果たした役割はとても大きいのです。しかし、そのことは東海大学においてはなかなか知る機会は少なく、私自身この３月KMITLに訪問した際に学科の教員から聞いて、東海大の教員になって10年近くたってやっと知ったという情けない状況です。
こりゃいかんということで、KMITLについての日本そして東海大学の取り組みをまとめた「一つの国際協力物語」を購入し読み始めました。
