อนุสาวรีย์ท้าวสุรนารี

ต่อมากู่นั้นได้ทรุดโทรมลงมาอีก อีกทั้งยังอยู่ในที่แคบ ไม่สมเกียรติ พระยากำธรพายัพทิศ (ดิส อินทรโสฬส) ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดนครราชสีมา นายพันเอกพระเริงรุกปัจจามิตร (ทอง รักสงบ) ผู้บังคับการมณฑลทหารบกที่ 5 พร้อมด้วยข้าราชการ และประชาชนชาวนครราชสีมา ได้พร้อมใจกันสร้างอนุสาวรีย์ท้าวสุรนารีด้วยสัมฤทธิ์ ซึ่งทางกรมศิลปากรได้มอบให้ ศาสตราจารย์ ศิลป์ พีระศรี เป็นผู้ออกแบบร่วมกับ พระเทวาภินิมมิตร (ฉาย เทียมศิลปไชย) ประติมากรเลื่องชื่อในสมัย จอมพล ป. พิบูลสงคราม
ทั้งนี้ได้อัญเชิญอัฐิของท่านนำมาบรรจุไว้ที่ฐานรองรับ และประดิษฐานไว้ ณ ที่หน้าประตูชุมพล อนุสาวรีย์หล่อด้วยทองแดงรมดำ สูง 1.85 เมตร หนัก 325 กิโลกรัม ตั้งอยู่บนฐานไพที สี่เหลี่ยมย่อมุมไม้สิบสองซึ่งบรรจุอัฐิของท่าน แต่งกายด้วยเครื่องยศพระราชทาน ในท่ายืน มือขวากุมดาบ ปลายดาบจรดพื้น มือซ้ายท้าวสะเอว หันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันตก ซึ่งเป็นทิศที่ตั้งของกรุงเทพมหานคร นับเป็นอนุสาวรีย์ของสามัญชนสตรี คนแรกของประเทศ เริ่มก่อสร้างในปี 2476 แล้วเสร็จ และ มีพิธีเปิดอนุสาวรีย์เมื่อวันที่ 15 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2477
ในงานพิธีเปิดนี้ จึงได้มีการสร้างเหรียญไว้เป็นที่ระลึก โดยมี สมเด็จมหาวีรวงศ์ (ติสโส อ้วน) เป็นประธานฝ่ายสงฆ์ และพระคณาจารย์สายพระอาจารย์มั่น – พระอาจารย์เสาร์ ร่วมพิธีปลุกเสกที่ วัดสุทธจินดา ชาวเมืองนครราชสีมารัก และหวงแหนเหรียญรุ่นนี้กันมาก เพราะถือกันว่านี่คือ เหรียญแห่งชัยชนะ เพื่อศรีสง่าแห่งบ้านเมือง และเชิดชูเกียรติ ท้าวสุรนารี วีรสตรีไทยตลอดกาล[5] และทางกรมศิลปากร ได้ขึ้นทะเบียนอนุสาวรีย์ท้าวสุรนารี เป็นโบราณสถานวัตถุแห่งชาติ เมื่อวันที่ 3 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2480
ครั้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2510 ฐานอนุสาวรีย์ชำรุด ข้าราชการ และประชาชนชาวนครราชสีมา โดยนายสวัสดิวงศ์ ปฏิทัศน์ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดในขณะนั้น เป็นประธาน ได้ร่วมใจกันสร้าง ฐานอนุสาวรีย์บรรจุอัฐิท้าวสุรนารี ขึ้นใหม่ ณ ที่เดิม เพื่อให้เป็นศรีสง่าแก่บ้านเมือง และเชิดชูเกียรติท้าวสุรนารี วีรสตรีไทยตลอดกาลนาน แล้วเสร็จ เมื่อวันที่ 29 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2510
