บทเรียนของเหตุการณ์พฤษภาคม ๒๕๓๕ ได้

แต่การสิ้นสุดของระบอบอำมาตยาธิปไตย เมื่อทหารกลับเข้ากรมกอง ก็มิใช่จุดมุ่งหมายเดียวของการเคลื่อนไหวเดือนพฤษภาคม ๒๕๓๕ เพราะระบอบการเมืองในขณะนั้นก็มิใช่สิ่งที่น่าชื่นชมแต่อย่างใด ทั้งนี้ต้องไม่ลืมว่าส่วนหนึ่งของความรุนแรงเดือนพฤษภาคม ๒๕๓๕ ก็เกิดจากระบอบการเมืองแบบรัฐสภาในขณะนั้นด้วยเช่นกัน

ตรงกันข้ามหลังเหตุการณ์พฤษภาคม ๒๕๓๕ ได้มีปรากฎการณ์ที่บ่งชี้ว่าประชาธิปไตย ที่เป็นอยู่นั้นไม่เพียงพอที่จะแก้ปัญหาประชาชนได้ ดังจะเห็นได้จากการเคลื่อนไหวทางการเมืองหลังเหตุการณ์เดือนพฤษภาคม ๒๕๓๕ ได้มีการนิยาม "สิทธิ" โดยประชาชนเองมากขึ้น
