This is not the much more expensive and famous`The Mandarin`, but in many ways it was every bit as good as a Hilton or similar international business hotel. The rooms were large and fully equipped, even with washing toilets which are a rarity outside of Japan. The lobby, pool and public areas were very nice and the subway is a very short walk. The skytrain is farther but the walk there is very interesting and one of the main areas of Bangkok. Lumpini park is also very close. There was one problem: my initial top floor room was facing a huge neighboring construction site which was supposed to shut down at 18:00. By 20:00 it was still going loud so I called the front desk. The first person told me they would check into it and get back to me. By 20:40, with no reply, I called down again; this new front desk person immediately sent a bellhop to my room with a key for a new room on the other, quiet side of the hotel. If the management can weed out this kind of uneven surface, this hotel is a more than adequate and much cheaper option to the more famous global brand hotels.
