At the high intertidal zones, the meadow structure showed patchiness in all of the sites; thus, three patches separated by a few meters were selected at random. At the low intertidal zones, three quadrats were randomly selected in each site. For the seagrass variables measured at the level of individual shoots (i.e., leaf length and width, N%, P%, and chlorophyll and free amino acid (FAA) contents), five vertical shoots of T. hemprichii were randomly collected within each patch/quadrat and transported to the laboratory for further measurement and analysis. The leaf length and width were measured from intact youngest mature leaves (accuracies of 1.0 mm for the leaf length and of 0.01 mm for the leaf width).
