ชุดนักเรียนของไทยเริ่มมีขึ้นครั้งแรกในสมัยการวางรากฐานการศึกษาไทย ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 ราว พ.ศ. 2428 โดยเครื่องแบบนักเรียนในยุคแรกประกอบไปไปด้วย
