ก่อนที่ภาษาอังกฤษผมจะอยู่ในระดับที่ดีอย่างทุกวันนี้ ในตอนแรกผมมีสกิลภาษาอังกฤษที่ไม่ดีเลย แม้ว่าจะโชคดีที่ได้เรียนอังกฤษมาตั้งแต่ยังเล็กก็ตาม
แต่ถึงกระนั้น.. ตอนนี้ทุกวิชาที่เป็นภาษาอังกฤษผมตั้งใจเรียนตลอด (แตกต่างจากตอนก่อนหน้านั้นอย่างสิ้นเชิง) เพราะเริ่มตระหนักได้แล้วว่า ภาษาอังกฤษ น่าจะมีความจำเป็นอย่างมากในชีวิต รวมถึงสาขาวิชาที่เลือก ก็ยังเลือกภาษาอังกฤษด้วย.. ซึ่งก็ถือว่าทำให้เรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษมากขึ้นอีก แต่ด้วยพื้นฐานที่ไม่ดี ทำให้เราไม่สามารถนำไปประยุกต์ใช้ได้มากนัก แถมศัพท์พื้นฐานก็ยังรู้บ้างไม่รู้บ้างอีกต่างหาก

ในช่วงเทอมสุดท้าย มัธยมศึกษาปัที่6 ด้วยความที่ค่อนข้างว่าง ผมก็ตัดสินใจที่จะพัฒนาภาษาอังกฤษ ด้วยการเล่นเกม RPG แต่ไม่ได้เล่นสนุก ๆ อย่างตอนประถม เพราะมีเงื่อนไขกับตัวเองว่า จะต้องแปลทุกคำพูดภาษาอังกฤษที่เจอในเกม ให้เป็นภาษาไทยทั้งหมด ซึ่งผมก็พยายามเล่นตั้งแต่แรกจนจบเลยทีเดียว

และถ้าถามว่าวิธีนี้ได้ผลหรือไม่ บอกตรง ๆ เลยว่า ได้ผลเกินคาดมาก ๆ เลย เพราะว่าทำให้รู้คำแปลของศัพท์พื้นฐานเป็นจำนวนมาก เพราะต้องเจอแทบจะตลอดทั้งเกมส์ ชนิดที่ว่า ไม่ต้องเปิด Dictionary เพื่อหาความหมายของคำเหล่านั้นอีกต่อไป .. แต่ช่วงแรก ๆ ต้องพยายามหน่อย เพราะว่าไม่รู้คำศัพท์เลย ต้องเปิดหาความหมายแทบทุกคำ และบางคำต้องเปิดแล้วเปิดอีก แต่พอเริ่มเข้าที่เข้าทาง เราจะจำได้เอง และพอเจออีก มันก็จะเป็นการย้ำให้เราดึงความหมายนั้นจากสมองของเราโดยตรง ยิ่งทำให้จำได้ดีเข้าไปอีก
