Adherence to the MINT-TLC protocol is an important aspect of this study given its intensity. At the trial’s inception, the RAs participated in a 3-day training comprising an overview of the behavioral framework of the intervention; the curriculum; and basic group facilitation skills taught through role-plays and didactic instruction. In addition, the RAs participated in a 2-day training on MINT skills including an overview of the basic principles of MINT techniques, development of problem-solving approaches, and practice sessions in the form of role-plays. All MINT sessions are audiotaped and used for two related purposes: (1) to provide feedback and ongoing supervision of the RAs [24], and (2) to provide systematic review for treatment fidelity via a systematic sampling of 30% of the sessions, which will be coded in order to assess adherence to MINT principles using the widely validated Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) scale [25]. Finally, we record completion of the food diary and homework assignments and attendance of group classes and note the compliance and attrition rates.
