Au Pair in Norway - Visa application and work permit
Before you leave for Norway, your work permit application must be submitted to the nearest Norwegian foreign embassy, within the country of which you are a resident.
The application will need to include:
The signed employment contract provided by your hosts
A copy of your passport
A "rights and obligations form" signed by yourself and your hosts
An extra passport photo
Documentation of your hosts nationality
A signed insurance certificate, with proof that the insurance has been paid
In order to apply for your work permit to be an Au Pair in Norway, you must already have a confirmed offer of employment from a host family. It will be required that you can present your signed employment contract as part of the application. The host family will have paid for the insurance related to the document you must provide, and you do not need to cover this cost yourself.
Time for the application process
Applications for Au Pair work permits take at least 1 month to be processed, so you should prepare this well in advance of your planned start date, as you will not be able to begin working without it.
Cost for the application
The Au Pair work permit application will cost you approximately 150 euros, and all of your documents must have translations in both Norwegian and English.
Lenght of the work permit
Your Au Pair work permit must be granted to you before you enter Norway and is valid for 2 years. It will not provide the grounds for an extension to permanent residence in Norway. You cannot have a permit for more than two years so you can only renew the permit for Norway if your original one was for less than two years. If your first permit was under two years and you do want to renew it, you need to start the process at least one month before the end of your current permit.
I already have my work permit. What to do next?
Once you get your work permit, you will need to get a residence card to prove that you have been allowed to live in Norway. To get this residence card, you will need to go the police station and have your fingerprints and photo taken. They will then send you the residence card around 10 days later.
