This is very interesting to me.
With my intermediate adult students (18-30 age range) I tried to discuss this topic with them. Spent about 5 minutes defining the term hazing and explaining how it is a prevalent and often lethal problem in American fraternities so they wouldn't be shy to discuss their own issues. They clearly understood what hazing was, but essentially said they had never heard any first hand accounts of such things happening in Thailand. ~75% of these students were in university, although most were girls. I couldn't believe they really had never seen or experienced any hazing, but they were adamant and I trust them for the most part as we usually have quite open and realistic discussions.
I'm going to use this article on Monday in a different class of the same level students and see what the response is.
